A Better Place to be

How is a person’s life characterized? Is it the good that one does for many years or is it one heroic event that catapults someone labeled as a society outcast to the forefront of today’s media? Conversely could a person that has dedicated their life to the greater good of humanity be remembered for one case of poor judgment?

Many thoughts could be formed in the first paragraph and honestly books could be written about it. The troubling thing is that in most situations what is written and remembered is not the good that we do but the sins we commit. As you sit there reading this please take a moment to adjust your halo because it should be in proper position to cast the spell upon others you do in your gossip, greed, and judgment. I know that was a bold statement and certainly not directed at any one person. My point in being so forthcoming is to help people to understand that the sins that others bare publicly just might be the same ones you cover privately.

There are several references in the written Word where Jesus spends his time with the sinners not the righteous and believe it or not we spend 100% of our time with the sinners too. As you read this give thought to the people in your life that you have condemned whether right or wrong. Were your actions the exact actions you would hope for yourself if your hidden sin was revealed?

Today too much attention is placed on our shortcomings and not enough focus on our goodness. It is true and I believe this, that the majority of the time we are all good. The human aspect of this body we call home makes us prone to sin yet our conscience guides us toward the good. Sure by living a life as close to the Gospel as we can it helps us to avoid the daily pitfalls of life. BUT we do step in the pits of hell from time to time. When those moments occur instead of being the flavor of the day and following everyone else to the crucifixion why not find the courage to stand alone and love the sinner. Not in word but in action. Mother Teresa said it so perfectly “Today it is popular to talk about the needy but it is not real popular to talk to the needy”.

We can make the world a better place to live and it starts with you (me). Don’t wait for something or someone else before you make you better. God has you in the exact spot right now to make a difference in someone’s’ life including your own. Be a man (woman) stand for what is right and just. Say “I am sorry” and mean it. Be humble, be Christ like, be real. Remove your angelic halo and replace it with The Crown of Thorns. Share the pain of others in Christ like fashion. In your final reward when Christ issues you a heavenly halo then wear it with honor knowing your work on earth was loving the one’s others cast out.

You do matter, you do make a difference. Your life is worth millions more than the pennies worth of gossip you spread. Lift up your hearts to the Lord today and let peace on earth began with you.

May God’s blessing be with you always
