Flowers and Weeds

When you head out each day to the gardens of life I have to ask, are you on a weed hunt or a flower hunt? In the vast beauty that surrounds your day what do you see? Do you see the person struggling to make it however they never complain because they see the flowers not the weeds? If you see that person do you water the flower or step over it like a weed? This is important because if we view the world through callous eyes we also view ourselves the same even though we may not know it. If you look down on others less fortunate that would indicate that you are watering the weeds welling up inside you, however on the other hand when you reach out with love to those in need you are watering the flowers budding in and through you.

How you view the world is usually in direct relation to how you see yourself. I love Proverbs 4:23 “be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life”. If your life is focused on the flowers not the weeds, the forgiveness not the grudge, the living not the dying, the healing and not the sickness I can assure that your personal garden of life will produce many more flowers than weeds.

Take this same view in your workplace. Are you a weed to your company and those that work beside you or are you a flower? Do you bring hope, direction, and energy? Or do you bring up problems and focus your time on magnifying the shortcomings of others? People love to share the misery they have in the place they work yet they usually fail to mention the good that comes from being there.

How about your personal life? How do you see your family and friends? Are they weeds producing discontent and ill will or are they flowers budding with hopes and dreams? If you see your family and friends as mere weeds then you may want to consider that you could be the one either watering the weed or planting the seed that produces it. On the other hand if you see them as flowers you are probably reaping what you sow in the garden of life.

As you approach the New Year concentrate on clearing out the weeds so you can have clear view of Christ who is the flower that brings hopes and dreams back to life. The Cross of Christ is the scare crow your garden needs to keep the weeds of hopelessness and despair at bay.

It is time to fertilize the flowers so you and others can enjoy and appreciate that magnificence of colors and shapes that come from the various types. See flowers come in all shapes and sizes however the beauty is evident in them all, so to for us creatures of God we come in all shapes, sizes, sins, backgrounds, colors, occupations, and places however the beauty is clearly there when the weeds blocking your eyes are removed.

Give hope a chance in this wonderful season of joy. Give you a chance and give those around you the opportunity to see the new creation in Christ you have become now that the weeds your thoughts were once producing have been removed. If that Proverb from 4:23 is correct and I say it is then what we think from this point forward is how beautiful the flowers on God’s earth are and remember we are all flowers waiting for the water of life which our love and smile can produce.

Thanks for this reminder. I have been watering the weeds lately when it comes to my family. Dan called me on it last night. I had not realized I was even doing it. Hopefully not too much damage was done and I will try to make amends and water the flowers instead. Thanks Dale!
