The WOW experience

I had the pleasure of visiting with a gentleman this morning that shared with me what life was like in the 50's and 60's. He spoke of man going to the moon, the advance in commercial jet service, oh get this FM radio, and many other things that produced the WOW factor for him.

When he departed I got to thinking about the last time something created a WOW experience for me. I think the biggest surprise was that nothing surprises me anymore. Think about what has happened in technology over the last few years especially with items like the IPHONE and IPAD. Even with all that still no WOW factor.

It hurts to think that our lives have been reduced to the point we expect everything yet in reality we get nothing. When I say nothing I mean that feeling of anticipation we once got as awaited for the next big release, or the days before vacation, or anything like that. Now we are so immune to the advances of the world in which we live that our senses are numb to just about everything.

What is your WOW factor or do you even have one? If Jesus himself walked on water right in front of you would that even create the WOW experience. I believe we live in such an age of expectation that we are conditioned to think that we should have whatever we want whenever we want it. This in and of itself places us in a dillusional existence that puts us above God. Sure you can and will disagree but think about it. Where do you feel like God is in your life? We have replaced God with other things that satisfy our senses, right? Even our spiritual needs are met by things that do not include God.

I will not dwell on this other than to say there is hope. The hope is realizing that we still need the human touch and affection. We cannot replace that with options such as you get when you try to call big businesses and the operator is automated. We are not automated creatures. We need the simplicity of life and believe it or not that still can create the WOW factor. Here is a hint, go outside and enjoy the fresh air and marvel at the trees and wildlife. You might be surprised at how good it can feel.

Want to come back to life, well unplug for a few minutes and start living. The movement starts with you.
peace to you

Dale
