Spiritual Voodoo
Good morning from my chair, I write as I look out at unexpected snow, which by the way is a beautiful sight. For days now I have thought about something I will call spiritual voodoo. Come on everyone has heard of voodoo dolls even to the point of wishing you had one to poke needles in so you can inflict pain at will on someone. Of course those voodoo dolls are Hollywood and certainly not the way people really treat them. Regardless though beings that perception is reality in our world I will allow you to formulate in your mind exactly what you think a voodoo doll is. Hey for the sake of conversation go ahead and form in your brain what faith and spirituality is as well.
Spirituality is a loose term that gets tossed around so often that it has little to NO meaning anymore. There was a time that being spiritual literally meant going to church, reading the Bible, or acting true to your faith. Now days the term can mean so many things like worshiping nature, seeking self fulfillment, being one with God or your creator, having faith in something other than religion. It can mean a multitude of things and it is so dynamic in our lives that it can change several times.
Spirituality has no basis for existence other than what we are taught. Think about the people especially hundreds of years ago that had zero formal education or exposure to what we can call a Christian movement. These people were left to explore and develop their own source of belief in the life here and now as well as the life after death. Most communal people had some source of spirituality whether it be the heavens, the earth, the wind or rain. There was something that triggered them to act in a particular way. That spiritual knowledge was passed down to generations of people and was rarely shaken or broken by others seeking to impose another belief on them.
In today's society or spiritual voodoo can change by the hour. A not so friendly post on facebook can insight a viral move that brings the devil out of the dark and right into our heads. We are so driven by sensitivity now days that we can shake our spiritual core simply by standing in line and seeing someone in front of us acting in away that causes us to have patience that we DO NOT desire to have. All of the sudden that spiritual being has flown out the window and replaced by the devil in disguise.
How deep is yours or my spiritual core? I say it is so shallow that the smallest of challenges can cause you to lose what you think you have. Think about it, challenge your own belief system. I bet you have a negative opinion about all kinds of things that are people based. Remember a small person talks about people in negative ways. What will you do today that exposes your spiritual voodoo. Will you promote love by your actions? Or maybe you will make fun of someone utilizing government assistance. Will you show a sign of peace to someone today or will you be a snob and place yourself above others. Friends our actions speak our spiritual belief pure and simple. Say what you want about what you think you believe but the truth is set in motion by what you do.
What you do is who you are. You can poke all the needles you want in your little voodoo doll but believe me nothing is going to change who you are or what you do except you. Go ahead make a negative comment on facebook and feel good when others jump on your bandwagon. Spout out something negative about people that are not as fortunate or are different than you are. You, me, and everyone wears our spirituality on our sleeve everyday of our lives.
Nothing positive in life will ever happen unless it has some combination of peace, love, acceptance, and forgiveness. That is the core of our spiritual being. Anything else is simply spiritual voodoo. Trust me folks love will take you so much further than hate.
I wrote last week that Jesus came for the sinners which happens to be all of us. Sin is in our nature and will be till our death. We will make mistakes everyday we exist. We can however work through those mistakes when we have a heart of love towards others. Come on let's work together to change this world. Don't get so caught up in the overstated news of the day that it ruins your day and the day of those around you. Today if only for today show a sign of peace and love and who knows it may just carry over to tomorrow. You deserve a break today so give yourself one by being a loving peaceful person.
