Why do I take life for granted!

What do you take for granted? You probably do not know until it is either not working or taken away. Take for example your vehicle. You get in turn the key and it starts, but what if it didn't. Each morning you get out of bed and put your feet on the floor and start walking, but what if you had no feet. Relationships are wonderful they provide for us a social network, warmth, and togetherness, but what if they were gone and you were alone.

We can make this list as long or as short as we want it to be, my intention is get you to think about things you do most everyday yet never appreciate fully that they are there. I think this resonates more with relationships and health than most things. But there is something else I would like to talk about that I think we take for granted and it has a significant impact on our lives. That is God's desire for us to be happy. That is a bold statement I know and most would ask where I got that and why do I believe it. Especially beings that so many people around the globe suffer while we prosper.

If you, me, we believe in God, as I am going to assume that we do, then I hope we believe that as a loving creator his desire would be for us to live happy healthy lives. There comes into play here that thing called "free will" where as God gave us, our ancestors, and predecessors the ability to think and act in order to form our lives. That is something we take for granted, trust me. As we humans mature most of us only have the ability to think in terms of "me"and "now". That leaves so much to chance and that is why I write what I write today. Being selfish is a cancer that eats away at everything around you so slowly you don't even realize it until you have nothing left. The ME and NOW factor robs us of so much joy and so much potential but we do however live in a society that promotes instant me gratification. We take for granted that our actions or lack there of can cause a ripple effect felt for years to come.

God gave you feelings, but they have to be nurtured and developed or they grow cold. God gave you emotions that must be used or we become stale. God gave us love that must be expressed or we become lonely and bitter. God gave us a body, his temple, that must be exercised or it will be become frail and weak. God gave us a mind that must be developed with positive input or it will become cynical and filled with hate. You see all this is who and what we are, yet we take it so for granted.

Do you wonder what happened to your friends, why are people bitter, why is there so much hate, why is love not felt in your life, why is the only emotion you have left sadness and anger, why, why, why? The answer might be because you take everything around you for granted. This message was not written about other people, it was written about you.

My final point I would like to make is why do we take love for granted. You may say you do not, but give serious thought to that for a moment. If you harbor ill will towards someone or you are quick to cast judgement it is possible you take for granted what God placed in you from birth, which is the ability to love and be loved. When you hold those grudges you take for granted the gift of forgiveness, when you  go about your day thinking only of the things you are bitter about, you miss the power of love and peace.

The health that we take for granted may be related to how we treat ourselves and others. You may say, it is no big deal, but the truth is IT IS. Our life is waiting in the balance to be lived, and the only way to fully live it is to appreciate it. Remember all the mistakes you judge others on are similar to the mistakes you have made. Do not wait for others to express their gifts of love and forgiveness, be the first to do so. Not because they deserve it but because you deserve peace. Health, love, and relationships are terrible things to take for granted. Take hold of your life today and see what living is all about.

peace to you
Dale
