Keep the Fire Burning

Last week while writing my blog about Bruce Jenner it made me think about how many people live their lives in the shadows of others. I don't mean a gender identity crisis I mean how many of us simply accept our lives as they are while secretly in the recesses of our mind wish that there was more to life than there is. I have had the great pleasure of having some open and frank discussions this week with people that are trying to break free from the bondage that they have allowed family, friends, tradition, church, and society to place on them. What I mean can be brought together in this one simple question: "do you remember who you were before the world convinced you who you should be?" Don't misunderstand please, I am not saying that our friends and family are bad or don't care about us, I am saying that they too have become victims to a society that rewards conformity more than it does individuality. Remember the greatest inventions were made by people that stepped out of the tried and true worn down path of ages.

Let's dive deep into this for a few minutes. The premise or I should say the inspiration for this blog comes from my personal journey as well as those that have shared their story with me as to how they escaped the status quo of life. I, like many, spent years following the rules and guidelines set forth by my religious formation. I actually love what I learned but the more I learned the more questions I had. The more questions I had the more uncomfortable others got, so much so that they even became defensive in their lack of knowledge. Hence the wonderful fallback term "you just have to have faith". Trust me when I say this, I am a firm proponent in taking a leap of faith. I do not think our world would be anywhere near as amazing as it is if it weren't for the remarkable men and women that want against the grain and took a leap of faith. We can't make positive changes in our lives nor can we leave a lasting legacy of who we are without stepping up and taking a leap of faith. I am all about faith BUT when it comes to avoiding questions about our religion, spirituality, salvation, etc I want more than just faith. God created us as curious creatures, thank goodness. We can't suppress that curiosity just because we have been taught that there are certain areas of life you just don't question.

I admire Bruce Jenner for taking his leap of faith. I do not understand it but I can't see life through his eyes either. What I do know is depression and anxiety seem to be running rampant in our world today. People are so confused as to what to do, who to be, where to go, that they just fade into the abyss of life never knowing the stunning person that God created them to be. At least Bruce Jenner is trying to find himself.  In my personal journey I feel as though I broke free from the bondage of society. Not in a bad way but in a good way. I feel the freedom to love people and promote peace, more so now than ever before. I see the good in the world even though everything you see in the media is bad. I don't have walls and rules that place restraints on me that keeps me from loving and helping people. I can allow myself to fully become the person God created me to be. In that development I will sin and make many many mistakes along the way. The journey was not meant to be easy nor does it come without risk. To be who we are we have to take that leap of faith and believe in ourselves. See I do believe in faith.

Now let me try and give this blog some meaning and leave you with some nuggets. In my own opinion the greatest weapon on earth is the human soul on fire. The only way to get that fire burning is to fall in love with who you are and forget who people told you that you should be. Did you know that there is no scientific logic as to why a bumblebee can fly. It's body is too heavy and it's wingspan is to short, which means that there is no possible way it can fly. The problem is NO ONE told the bumblebee that it couldn't fly. See with us humans we have been told what we can't do, to the point we started believing it. Remember you are confined ONLY by the walls you build. If you allow others to tell you what you can't do or be you will live your life never hearing the beautiful melodies that your soul is aching to sing. Life is a journey and it is in that journey that we either find our lose who we are. We were born to make a difference in the lives of others and ourselves and we should take every opportunity to do so.

peace and love
Dale
