Terrorism

As we once again see our values attacked by the terrorist act in Orlando, I decided to share some thoughts from a different point of view. It certainly is incumbent on all Americans as well as those that respect our freedom to have some semblance of emotions towards what has happened. There is no doubt in my mind that we will see a polarity of views as it relates to this act. Thank goodness we live in a society that respects the point of view from all Americans.

As a cancer fighter I decided to use a medical analogy as I discuss terrorism on our soil. If I had gone to the doctor and been misdiagnosed and the medical professionals set up a treatment protocol based on erroneous information, not only would my disease progress I could die. When it comes to sickness it is crucial that we get proper diagnosis of the illness and the respective protocol that goes with curing or at least caring for it. What does that have to do with terrorism?

For years, in an effort to be politically correct, our elected leaders have continually misdiagnosed the problem. I will not blame them totally because there is culpability on our part as well. In this age of instant information and response via social media we love to share our opinions whether or not they lead to a cure or further escalation of a disease. We blame politicians for being politically correct yet when they step outside that zone we lash out in such a way that forces them back in. Yes, it is us as Americans that have created the politically correct agenda and ideology that we see our leaders so ardently adhere too. Again you may say what does this have to do with terrorism.

Consider two parents that are battling for the love of their teen child. One parent continually tries to out do the other regardless of the consequences on the child. With ever action there is an opposite and equal reaction. Everything we do, good or bad, has consequential results. In this case what seems on the surface to be good, can actually be bad in the long run for the child. What does this have to do with terrorism?

We simply cannot go on with business as usual. We have to face the fact that their is a problem. We got it wrong, we misdiagnosed the illness. We share in this responsibility. We stand polarized, divided, with walls built so high we can't see the light of day anymore. So what are my thoughts and why are they going to be so different.

Suffice it to say there are people in this country that hate what we stand for with every fiber of their soul. They have misguided consciences that have poured bigotry right down to the depths of their being. This has been a part of America for centuries and always will be. It isn't because we have religious freedom, it is because we have FREEDOM. Thank God we have it too. There is a high price to pay with living in the land of the free and home of the brave. We will never stop terrorist acts BUT I think we can resolve ourselves to slow it down.

We no longer love one another because we are too busy blaming each other for what we see as wrong. We always have it figured out, we know the right answers, we have the proper actions, we absolutely will not take responsibility but we will gladly share in the vitriol that makes the situation worse. Those that know me know that I place a high emphasis on love. When hate groups proliferate, one of their main objectives is to force people into fear and hatred of each other. Democrats now hate Republicans and vice versa. There is little respect for another persons agenda if it is different from ours. Social media has made us the Chihuahua behind the screen door. Years ago two people sit down face to face and talked out their issues, not now. It is much easier to spew venom on social media with little regard to actual facts. Again what does all this have to do with terrorism.

In summation, let's get involved in our communities again, let's know our neighbors, let's respect our law enforcement, let's elevate our education system to the point that teachers have a voice as to how our children are raised. Let's respect what America stands for which includes religious freedom, yes that means faiths other than Christianity. Let's love people simply because they are human beings. It should not matter if they are black, white, Latino, gay, straight, Christian, Jew, Democrat or Republican. Inch by inch, day by day, ounce by ounce, we can heal the wounds that divide. We simply must put love to work in our hearts. This action does not start with someone else, it starts with each of us. Will this stop terrorism? NO not at all, but if we practice love, promote peace, accept our values little by little we will slow it down.

All my life I have believed that love will find away but that can only happen if it has a chance. We can arm ourselves as best we can, we can spew all the hate and opinions we desire, we can lash out at everyone that doesn't believe what we believe, but in the end we are still human beings and the one desire placed in us from the creator is to be accepted. Get involved, know your friends, feel their hearts, offer a shoulder, share differences with a totality of love and respect. We can do this, well let me rephrase that, we will do this. Hatred and terrorism will never wipe out a people of love. It will hurt, harm, kill, but it will never conquer. Remember FEAR does not stop death, it stops life. LOVE is the gateway to bringing peace back to our hearts. I urge you to water the seeds of love and starve out the seeds of hate.

God bless
Dale
