The Vacation

Think about this for a minute: can you imagine planning a vacation to the mountains all year long? I am sure it would be exciting the closer the day came for the trip to begin. Finally, after much anticipation, you pull out of your driveway and head down the interstate to your destination. After hours of travel and still miles away, the majestic beauty of the mountains comes into view.

I hope you are putting yourself into the frame of mind to visualize this dream vacation becoming a reality. For so many the difficulty of taking a vacation creates so much stress that it isn’t even worth the effort. However sometimes all the stars line up and you get the break you have been waiting for and that trip to your dream destination is possible.

The scenery is getting closer and closer, now the different types of trees are picturesque as you see the peaks and valleys enlarging with each mile you drive. Finally at the base of the mountain you can see the beautiful streams which create in your mind the thought of wading in the cool water. Then you see it, your exit is dead ahead. You imagine the smell of the flowers, the wildlife, the trails, and all the activities that have mounted in that brain of yours over the last few months and now it is within reach.

Turn around now, you tell yourself. You do not deserve to enjoy such a wonderful vacation as this. All the planning, all the work, everything you dreamed of, and now this. Your brain is telling you that you must go back. As fate would have it, you steer your vehicle in the other direction and with a depressed sigh, you head home.
Friends, that is our pursuit of Jesus Christ. We dream about it, think about it, pray about it, yet the reality is that the nearer we get, the more the anxiety mounts. Then for no reason we turn away from Christ just before we totally accept him. The grandeur of his kingdom is within reach yet we turn away. Just like the mountains, Jesus Christ is not moving away from us; we turn away from him.

We do deserve to enjoy a vacation and share in the beauty that God created and we also deserve a life with Christ. It is time we dream big and pray big because the God we dream about is a big God that has big plans for us. Do not turn back now because you are so close to victory. One more mile, another step, the next door, each one is bringing you closer to the dream vacation of eternity. It is there for you to enjoy and all it takes is you believing you deserve it. God knows you do so the rest is up to you. Oh yes, so close to the Cross yet so far from Christ. Turn that car back around and finish that which you started. The destination is greater than the dream and journey.

Peace love and joy
