Restrooms or Gorilla's

Are we really a work in process? Dang right we are and a good one at that. Several weeks ago I read an interesting article about Quantum Physics. The gist of the story was that we are all figments of our own imagination. Now understand I am not saying I believe this however it did give me something to ponder.

What the article basically was saying was that each of us lives in a fantasy world exclusive to our own imagination. Meaning, what we see around us may not be what others see. To take this a step further, the people that exist in our lives may not exist in the lives of others. I realize this is as broad as it is wide but there is a certain amount of logic and wisdom to be gained from this. We certainly do create the world in which we see. If you don't believe me just follow this sound or not so sound logic. In a matter of days we can get so emotionally engaged in the political theater that our blood pressure boils. What the hell is going on, right. Why can't everyone see this environment as I see it, and it goes on and on. Then in the blink of eye we lose sight of the politics and get caught up in the amazing discussion about what restroom people can use. That lead to a divide as deep as politics. Heck friends and family turned on each other at the slightest hint of disagreement. The political spectrum needed a break and was thankful it was something as silly as restrooms. Well, if that didn't capture your emotions, along comes a gorilla that totally takes our attention off of restrooms. Isn't it absolutely incredible how easily influenced and distracting the human mind can be.

We are media sensationalized puppets on a string. Go ahead and disagree, that is cool, and healthy. But before you stop reading just consider if you had a position on any of the above mentioned media events. Our moods and emotions can be stirred so easy it is almost sad. I realize many of you have read my blogs for years and know that I always have some weird twist. Well hold on tight we are about to take a short ride.

What you see is seldom reality. The truth is subjective. What we perceive to be real may actually be false. None of this matters unless it pertains to human feelings and emotions. I would like to say here and now that WORDS MATTER so choose them carefully. What we say and what we do has a profound impact on the emotional well being of others. Sometimes the things we fail to say and do are as emotionally devastating as the things we actually do.

Last week I spoke to lady about life issues. She informed me that she had no friends but she did have acquaintances. She felt like she could buy friends by asking them out to dinner and offering to pay but just hanging out wasn't happening. This sounds shallow I know but for the sake of space I do not want to get deep. The point here is that she felt so alone because no one reached out to her unless she reached first. I believe in life we must make it a point to tell someone they matter. We must be the reason someone smiles and we should be the light that helps others see. No this isn't quantum physics nor is it fantasy, this is real life situations buried in the hearts and minds of the walking emotionally wounded.

What does all this have to do with politics, restrooms, or gorilla's? Not a damn thing which is exactly the point. In your day to day encounter with people what DOES politics, restrooms, and gorilla's have to do with anything? Sure there are big picture issues worthy of discussion, but when it comes to touching the lives of others in very human ways we have to set aside the things that divide. There are enough people building walls and not enough building bridges. We can say that task is left to others but the truth is, that if we desire for our life to reach its potential we have to be the visionary that brings peace, love, and unity to those close to us. What we do matters, but why we do it matters so much more. In closing when it comes to those around you ask yourself this, do I push people away or pull them in, do I speak in such a way that others desire to listen and do I listen in such a way that others desire to speak?

God bless
Dale
